Not only does it take away the pressure of having to deal with your co-workers in person, it’s cheaper and you will get a lot more done! Of course, working from homewhether it’s  running your own business  or telecommuting as an employeedoes present some unique challenges. Most notably, you have to be more vigilant about protecting your work and your identity than you do when you work out of someone else’s company space. Keeping Private Data Private Whether you are working as an employee or are building your own business, it is incredibly important that you not leave proprietary information digitally lying around. For example, don’t keep financial information in an easily accessible cloud folder or on a computer without malware and hacking protection. Instead, keep important documents on a  SecureUSB  that you only plug into your device when you absolutely have to. This way, even if someone does break in and take a stroll through your files they won’t find anything. And, of course, having a backup of your backup is always a good idea. Just Say No to BYOD If you are telecommuting as someone else’s employee, ask that your employer provides the machine on which you will be doing your work. Supplying your own computer opens up your personal information to whatever prying eyes might be trying to take advantage of your employeror that one coworker who isn’t exactly subtle about wanting your job. If your employer is hesitant, remind them that there are many advantages to their providing you with the computers and devices you’ll need for work. For instance, they can install monitoring software that will track whatever you do while using that device (allowing them to keep tabs on your productivity). They can also decide which malware protection and software will be downloaded. They won’t have that level of control if you’re using your personal device! Protecting Personal Devices If you lose that battle with your employer or if you are building your own business, you will need to take some extra steps to protect your company as well as your personal information. Basic malware protection isn’t going to be enough. Here are some extra steps you can take: Email Encryption: encrypting your email doesn’t have to be complicated or require extensive knowledge of coding like it used to. Today there are a  bunch of different plugins  that you can download and install that will do all of that work for you. Obviously, if you want to learn the code yourself, that’s great! But if your brain doesn’t speak code, a plugin will work just fine. File Encryption: In addition to encrypting your communications, you should also use drive and file encryption to thwart any jerks who are able to skirt your malware protection protocols. File encryption is usually built into most computing these days but if you want to add some extra protection, using independent encryption is better. These codes are updated far more frequently than built in encryption is updated by manufacturers. Password Protection: You likely already know the basic rules of creating a really good password. And you also likely already know that you need to create multiple passwords and you need to change them often. Doing this can eat up a lot of your time and still leaves you slightly vulnerable. A better option is to use a password protection program that uses two-factor authorization for use. This way you don’t have to remember or manually enter your passwords and the two-factor authorization will prevent data breaches from compromising your information. Two Factor Authorization: Speaking of  two-factor authorization, turn on this feature on every account that offers it. Two-factor authorization, or TFA, is where an account requires a second form of authorization from you before it will allow you or anyone else access to an account. This second form of authorization might be a code that gets sent to your cell phone via text. Sometimes it will be a regenerating code that you access via a key like Google Authenticator. Some companies will even send you physical “keys” that you plug into your USB ports. Not only does TFA keep your accounts secure, it will let you know immediately if someone is trying to access those accounts without your permission. Remember, working from home has a lot of perks but that doesn’t mean that you can be complacent when it comes to your privacy and proprietary data. French Grammar Rules How to Conjugate Common Irregular Verbs Sign up successful The conjugation of “être” is probably the two most irregular verbs in French. For “être,” it can be helpful that “estar” and “ser” are the two Spanish verbs for “to be.” Both verbs are romantic languages with Latin roots. Spanish-speakers may see the forms of both verbs jumping out at them in different present forms. For those who dont speak another romantic language already, watch as the “s” present in the Spanish verbs sneaks back into the present tense conjugation of its French cousin: Je suis Tu es Il / elle / on est Nous sommes Vous êtes Ils / elles sont The root “ser-” the second Spanish verb for “to be” comes back also in conjugating the future tense in French. For those Spanish speakers out there, keep in mind also that the accent circonflex in French (^) often indicates an -s that over centuries became silent and was then dropped. So être  was likely at one time estre, and êtes  was likely once estes â€" again, likely very familiar looking to Spanish speakers out there. The verbs “aller” and “avoir” also change forms quite a bit in the present tense: Je vais Tu vas Il / elle / on va Nous allons Vous allez Ils / elles vont J ai Tu as Il / elle / on a Nous avons Vous avez Ils / elles ont The verb “faire” becomes a bit more regular. Like most -re verbs, the -re in faire comes off and is replaced by various endings in the present tense, with the exception of the third person plural. Some of the endings corresponding with other subject pronouns also vary a little from the typical -re endings. It is worth noting that this verb really has two separate meanings â€" to make and to do. So whether you talk about doing homework or making a cake, you will use the same verb when speaking in French. Here is the present conjugation: Je fais Tu fais Il / elle / on fait Nous faisons Vous faites Ils / elles font A notable element of irregular French verbs is that they sometimes come in pairs and trios that are conjugated in the same way. The pattern for conjugating “venir” can also be applied to “tenir” (to hold) and “revenir” (to come back). Je viens / tiens / reviens Tu viens / tiens / reviens Il / elle / on vient / tient / revient Nous venons / tenons / revenons Vous venez / tenez / revenez Ils / elles viennent / tiennent / reviennent Other similar pairs include: 1) “croire” (to believe) and “boire” (to drink) 2) “voir” (to see) and “revoir” (to see again) 3) “mettre” (to put) and “remettre” (to put back) Look out for these patterns to help you categorize the irregular verbs you know, and to learn them more easily! French grammar also has two irregular verbs for to know â€" “connaître” and “savoir”. To learn more about how to conjugate irregular verbs, check out the video below. For instance, talk about places you might want to go to practice the verb “aller,” or descriptions of yourself or your and friends to use the verb “être.” Then write it down, and check your spelling for each form, correcting them if necessary. You might try using one or two per week â€" because each one will take repetition and reinforcement to remember, especially with the irregularities. Remember how common they are, though. GRE Test Prep 3 Geometry Concepts to Know GRE/MAT Graduate School Blog Let’s look at three math concepts that are very helpful on the GRE’s Quantitative Reasoning sections. Each concept involves triangles. The first concept, triangle inequality, can be used with any triangle. The second concept, Pythagorean Triples, can be used with right triangles. And the third concept, a shortcut for finding the ratio of triangle perimeters or areas, can be used with similar triangles. To illustrate the first concept, we’ll start off with a sample GRE problem. First Concept: TRIANGLE INEQUALITY (GRE sample problem) One side of a triangle has a length of 15. Another side of the triangle has a length of 21. Which of the following could NOT be the triangle’s perimeter?Select ALL that apply.A. 72B. 70C. 48D. 42 E. 40Solution: To determine the triangle’s actual perimeter, we would need the length of the third side, which we are not given. If we knew that the triangle was a right triangle, we could use Pythagorean Theorem, (or in some cases special right triangle side ratios) to find the missing side length. However, nothing in the given information tells us for certain that we’re dealing with a right triangle. Fortunately we can use the concept of triangle inequality to establish a range of possible values for the third side of the triangle, which in turn will tell us the range of possible values for the perimeter. Imagine a triangle with side lengths a, b, and c. Triangle inequality states that the length of side a must be less than the sum of b and c, yet greater than the difference of b and c, or in other words: b - c a b + c.The side length designations are completely interchangeable, so “a” could be any of the three sides of the triangle.Setting up a triangle inequality for the side lengths we’re given in this problem, we simplify and find that: This in turn tells us that: Since the perimeter must be greater than 42, but less than 72, we have to select Answer Choices A, D, and E (all that apply) as values that could NOT be the triangle’s perimeter.Second Concept: PYTHAGOREAN TRIPLES-- A SHORTCUT FOR RIGHT TRIANGLESPythagorean triples are sets of 3 integers that can be sides of a right triangle. Pythagorean triples are excellent time-savers because they allow you to solve for a missing side of a right triangle without plugging numbers into the Pythagorean Theorem. You just have to do a little memorization. Here are some of Pythagorean Triples that show up most commonly on tests like the GRE: Common Pythagorean Triples 3-4-5 6-8-10 5-12-13 7-24-25 8-15-17Anytime you see a situation in which you could use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve a problem, check to see if you could shortcut the process with a Pythagorean Triple. For example, suppose we’re told that a right triangle has a hypotenuse of length 17 and a leg of length 15, and are asked to find the length of the other leg. Using Pythagorean Theorem, we could set up the following equation: and solve for x.HOWEVER, if we realize that a Pythagorean Triple is involved, we would see right away that x = 8. That’s because a leg of length 15 and a hypotenuse of length 17 fit precisely into the “8-15-17” triple in our list of common Pythagorean Triples.A word of caution when using Pythagorean Triples: Always remember that the biggest number in the triple MUST correspond with the hypotenuse of a right triangle. If the two legs of a right triangle are 8 and 17, for instance, the hypotenuse is NOT 15. Fortunately, if you accidentally misuse a Pythagorean Triple, it’s easy to catch: the mistake will cause you to have a right triangle in which a leg is longer than the hypotenuse, which is impossible. Anyway, in cases where Pythagorean Triples don’t apply, just set up and solve using Pythagorean Theorem.Third Concept: ANOTHER TRIANGLE SHORTCUT-- RATIOS OF PERIMETERS AND AREASYou’re probably very familiar with setting up proportions to solve for unknown sides of similar t riangles. For instance, if we are told that a triangle which has side lengths of 3, 4, and 5 is similar to a second triangle which has a shortest side with length of 9, we could easily set up proportions to find the other two sides (let’s call them “x” and “y”) of the second triangle: Solving the proportions, we find that x = 12 and y = 15.But what if you were asked to find the ratio of the two triangles’ perimeters? It’s easy. You don’t even have to add up all of the sides to get each perimeter. For similar triangles, the ratio of the perimeters is equal to the ratio of two corresponding sides, so in this case we have: If we are asked to find the ratio of the two triangles’ areas, there’s also a nice shortcut. For similar triangles, the ratio of the areas is equal to the square of the ratio of two corresponding sides, so here we find that:The word of caution here is that the above shortcuts for perimeter and area ratios only work if the triangles are similar. If you don’t know that the triangles are similar, you have to find the base and height of each triangle, plug them into the triangle area formula, and compare the results to find the ratio. The three concepts we’ve covered today will help you on GRE Quantitative Reasoning questions. Pythagorean Triples save time and energy, allowing you to avoid unnecessary calculations. Triangle inequality allows you to find answers to questions that would otherwise seem impossible to solve. Ratio shortcuts for similar triangles also save time and allow you to tackle otherwise insoluble problems. Pythagorean Triples are especially common on standardized math tests such as the GRE Quantitative Reasoning section. As distance learning becomes more and more mainstream, the majority of public and private four-year institutions in the US now offer a wide variety of highly reputable, accredited online teaching degree programs, spanning the bachelor, master and doctoral levels. There are a ton of options out there that are well worth exploring and that offer the same rigorous training and virtually the same job prospects as regular classroom-based teacher training programs in your state. As long as you go opt for an accredited program, your degree will be just as valid as a degree earned through an on-camps teacher education program. 1. Getting your bachelor’s degree in education online. Most online bachelor’s degree programs in education allow participants to specialize, either on a specific grade/age level or subject/content area. Let’s just hope we never get that one on a spelling test!ItalianNumber of learners: 8 millionItalian has 67 million total speakers.  Italy’s thriving economy and its pla ce as a solid market for U.S. exports make this beautiful language a contender among internationally-minded learners as well as academics and culture-lovers.We all realize that Italys famous for its art and culture. Thats been the case since the Roman Empire. But present-day Italy melds both the old-world treasures (Michelangelo, anyone?) with economic openings that anyone with a working fluency of the language could find life-changing.Fun fact:  If you’re wondering how this language spread across Italy and Europe, wonder no more.
